Spring Cleaning your Wardrobe

‘Out with the old and in with the new’ we say as Spring will officially hit us on the 29th March as the clocks spring forward, and we know you are dying to buy all the new pieces in your Gemini Wishlist. If you are like us the state of our wardrobe means we will need to get rid of old stock or hide it away in your attic!

Go on… pour yourself a glass of wine, and have some boxes at the ready – here are some tips to make that Wardrobe Spring Clean more bearable!

1. Make yourself an upbeat playlist – bobbing around while clearing out your wardrobe will always make you feel better about cleaning! Think about those endorphins that you’ll be getting for all that moving around and the fantastic singing that goes with it!

2. Have you worn it in a year? No? Bin it! – What makes you think you’re going to wear that dress which has been sitting in your wardrobe for over a year just gathering dust? Don’t hoard items – if you haven’t worn it in the last year, you simply won’t this year.

3. Prioritise – Think about what you need to keep in your wardrobe. Knowing our weather, it will probably throw in a few curve balls; therefore you’re going to need to prioritise what you’re going to need to keep. It’s a good idea to keep a jumper or a jacket around throughout the warmer months; however you don’t need to keep twelve out.

4. Find a friend you trust (and some more wine!) – Having a friend that you trust will help decide what needs keeping, what’s for hiding away for now and which clothes you need to get rid of. The wine will bring out your honest opinions of your clothing and may make you brave enough to make that big step to get rid of it!

5. Separate the stuff you are getting rid of into three boxes – Fill one box with clothing which are unwearable, for example with rips, holes or stains in. These can be taken to your local textile recycling centre! If your items are wearable but you don’t think you’ll be able to sell them on give them to charity – they will be happy to take in your unwanted clothes and you’ll feel far better for it. For everything else, there is always an online marketplace for them, such as Ebay or Depop. Just because you don’t want them, it doesn’t mean that somebody else won’t love them!
