What Makes Our AW23 Collections Eco-Friendly?

Sustainability is at the forefront of the fashion industry, and it has become increasingly important that environmentally friendly practices are woven into the production and design of garments. Opting for natural and/or recycled fibres, simple and timeless silhouettes that can be worn year after year, as well as a consideration for the patterns and colour palettes used, are all important decisions that can help you curate an eco-friendly capsule wardrobe with longevity! Read along to discover some of our top sustainable brands and their AW23 collections.

THING

THING is a Danish brand that has been created ‘with a focus on natural fibres, combined with creative & effortless silhouettes, the perfect mixture of easy basics and seasonal trend colours.’ In terms of a sustainable fashion collection, it ticks all the boxes! Their AW23 collection comprises of a minimal colour palette and some repeat styles.

Fabrics

Most garments are Oeko-Tex certified, which means that the garment is safe for human use at every stage of its production, e.g. the raw materials, fibres, yarns and dyes are all non-hazardous to human life. All their raw materials are of EU origin, which makes the transportation of goods more environmentally friendly as it means little to no air travel.

Within the AW23 collection, the Valli Baby Cord Trouser and the Viktoria Baby Cord Bubble Dress have both been crafted in pure organic cotton. Organic cotton is a breathable and soft fabric that is produced without the use of any GMO’s, fertilisers or pesticides.

Mama B

Mama B is described by owners Sara and Ezio as ‘deconstructed in fit & in the mind. A collection for today’s practical woman, dynamic & urban. Simple essentials with close attention to the materials & lines that she wants to have in contact with her body & soul.’ Mama B is ‘100% Made in Italy’ and they embrace the earthy and warm Italian tones as well as the natural yarns within their collections.

Fabrics

Mama B use Ecotec fabrics, which transform waste & production from the textile industry into new beautiful yarns. This results in a 56% reduction in emissions of greenhouse gas, 55.6% in energy saving and 77.9% of water consumption in the whole production! Their AW23 collection features their signature natural cotton blend fleece. The Bill U Plain Fleece Jumper and the new Allai Fleece Tunic Dress are just two of the pieces in this luxurious fabric.

Their main fabric is a soft fleece which is produced using the highest quality polyester and hard-spun viscose. They use many different dyeing techniques to ensure vibrancy and longevity within their products. Gemini Woman love the No Waste Block Colour Cardigan as it is cosy enough to wear as loungewear but stylish enough to wrap up warm in outside of the house, too!
