37 Years of Gemini Woman 

It’s our 37th Birthday soon! On the 7th of June, Gemini Woman will have been running for 37 years. Hence, we are saying a huge thank you to all our customers who have supported us throughout the years. We wouldn’t be where we are without you. 

We thought it would be nice to reflect on the Gemini journey throughout the years and share with you a few of the highlights as to what makes Gemini Woman such a special place. 

The Gemini Journey 

Just before her 23rd Birthday, Claire, the founder of Gemini Woman opened the original store in Banbury whilst also being 39 weeks pregnant. We do often wonder how she managed, but if you know Claire, you will know there is always a way. Claire and the small team at the time, including Julia who still works in the business today worked hard to make Gemini Woman a success. 

Since then, we have moved to Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire where the shop is, as well as the online team who work upstairs in the shop. Although still a small business, Gemini has grown, launching with the website in 2008, and now employing 20 members of staff. 

The Website launch catapulted our small indie business and has been a great opportunity for extending our reach to customers all around the UK. This led us to greater success and helped in our journey to being leading stockists for brands such as Masai, Sandwich and now Amazing Woman and Chalk, to name a few. We have also been lucky enough to extend globally and ship to many countries around the world. Some of our VIP customers are even now in America, Canada and Spain.  

Many of our customers know we love communicating with them, whether be it through email, social media or by phone (we love a natter). In recent years we have also launched the Gemini brochure, creating inspiring imagery every season to guide our customers on what to buy and how to wear them. We have so much fun shooting on location with our lovely models, many of whom are customers too. 

As a team, we are very proud of the business Claire has steer headed and the achievements we have made in our history. Not to blow our own trumpet but winning ‘The Drapers Best Multichannel Independent Business’ in 2019 has been a huge highlight for us. We are forever motivated to be a leading independent business in our sector. We are also constantly looking for ways to develop and stay ahead of the curve in fashion retail. 

A Support System 

All the Gemini girls have helped shape the business into what it is today. With over 100 Gemini alumni, we recognise that every person who has worked at Gemini has contributed to its success, as we have supported their individual stories as well. Claire is a big believer in supporting young talent and nurturing her staff. Many past employees have studied for apprenticeships whilst at Gemini and some have even gone on to degree level. Consequently, two members are currently about to complete a course in Content Creation. 

Claire has always been a keen supporter of local charities. From Fundraising evenings to charity fashion shows, we love to rally the team and raise awareness and funds. This is whilst having a lovely time with staff and customers together. This year is no exception, we have already collaborated with ‘The Friends of the Shakespeare Hospice’ and put on a fashion show at the historic Shakespeare School Room, raising over £1500. 

Going Forward 

There has been lots of laughter, giggles, and memories made along the way. Emily went into labour in the stockroom, Becky got locked in the shop after everyone else with keys had clocked off for the day, and we can certainly vouch for a few of us having one too many drinks at past Christmas parties! 

On a more serious note, we really are a family here at Gemini Woman, with Claire being the concrete core of it all. Here’s to 37 more years of making women of all ages, shapes, and sizes feel good in what they wear. Watch this space to see what exciting bits and pieces we have planned.
