How to Dress for Your Height?

There truly are no rules to fashion, but selecting styles that suit your height and frame can help to achieve the right look for you. Whether you are petite (5’4 and under), or on the taller side, there are ways you can get the best out of your height by choosing the right clothing silhouettes and playing around with proportions.

Choosing the right trousers/jeans

When it comes to trousers and jeans, choosing the right length for your height applies to the shortest and tallest among us. Robell has an amazing range of bottoms available in both full-length and a cropped 09 length. We recommend the 09 ankle-length to anyone petite, as this will provide a flattering full-length fit for you. If you are around an average height, you can enjoy sporting both lengths easily as they will equally suit you, depending on the look you are after. However, if you are taller, sticking to full-length silhouettes is best as the cropped length may unintentionally look too small for you.

Robell also provide Bella shorts in 04 and 05 length. We would recommend the shorter 04 length to petite heights, and the 05 for taller. Playing with proportions can accentuate your physique and avoid clothes looking ill-fitting.

Petite

Tops, jackets and knits with a slightly cropped finish between the waist and hips can complement petite heights as it can elongate the length of the legs and create the illusion of a taller appearance. The Jodie and Jolie knits from Amazing Woman are two boxy knits with a cropped finish that will give this desired look. Ensure when wearing boxy and contemporary fitting pieces to pair them with a slimmer trouser to further elongate the figure.

Fit and flare dresses, high-waisted bottoms, wrap details at the waist; anything that creates the illusion of longer legs will ultimately help you to look taller!

Heels are an obvious, but impractical solution to appearing taller. Opt for a pointed toe when choosing flats to elongate the leg, or a chunky/flatform sole on boots and trainers. Even a small heel on a boot or sandal will go a long way, so choose wisely!

Tall

If you are tall, you will generally be able to wear any silhouette and wear it well! However, we do have a couple of tips to ensure you look and feel your best. If you want to embrace your height, wide-leg trousers look great on taller silhouettes, and they can be paired alongside more oversized silhouettes without looking too bulky, due to your height! The Tia Velvet Black Stretch Flare Trouser and Thea Satin Pant are two of our current favourites.

Maxi skirts and dresses also look flattering and enable you to utilise your height in the best way. The Maeve Satin Slip Skirt from Chalk is a beautiful maxi slip skirt that can be styled casually with knits or dressed up with a blazer and top! Equally, Masai and Foil’s range of midi and maxi dresses will look great.

If you want to draw away from your height, colour blocking is a great trick to redefine your proportions and break up the physique.
