The Top UK Staycation Destinations for August 2023

With the summer already drawing to a close, you may still have an itch for getting away before the colder days are upon us once again. The UK is often underrated as a holiday destination but there are numerous beaches, cities, seaside towns, and landmarks that prove otherwise! Gemini Woman have rounded up 4 of the top places by different types of staycations for you to explore as a last-minute visit this August or September.

For the beach: Holkham Beach, Norfolk

If you crave a sandy beach for your summer getaway, look no further than the unsuspecting Norfolk, for Holkham Beach. Stay at the Victoria Inn for a luxurious stay and local seafood while remaining within walking distance to the sand. Holkham is a nature reserve and is home to sand dunes, as well as a large grazing marsh in which you may spot cows, grey herons, and many other birds depending on the time of year. Wells-next-the-sea is the closest town to the beach, and it is a harbour town, a perfect base for visiting Holkham beach!

For city life: Bath, England

Bath delivers the excitement of a city trip; the bars, restaurants, and people, alongside its rich history, culture, and beautiful architecture. This perfect blend makes for an interesting and tranquil stay! Some of the many attractions you could visit while in Bath are the Roman Baths, the Prior Park Landscape Gardens, or the Thermae thermal baths. However, walking through the city in itself is spectacular, with views of Bath Abbey, Pulteney Bridge and all of the historical streets and buildings.

For the best hikes: Lake District, Cumbria

There is an endless choice of trails to take in the Lake District, and there is no end of breathtaking sights to see along the way. With lakes, waterfalls, mountains and hills, not to mention the charming villages to stay in, the Lake District has to be the place to escape to this summer. For a quaint village stay, we recommend Grasmere town for its amazing independent restaurants and hotels.

For the history lover: Penzance, Cornwall

Penzance is situated in West Cornwall, and if you love galleries, museums and quaint cobblestone streets, this is the place to visit. Take a stroll through Chapel Street, Penzance’s most historic street and have a drink in Turk’s Head; which is allegedly Penzance’s oldest pub. Within the town, you will also find multiple museums and galleries, and cafes to stop off in between. Watch a shown at Minack Theatre, a theatre built into the side of Penzance’s coves. The most exciting attraction may be St Micheal’s Mount, a beautiful castle situated on the top of a mounted island. St Micheal’s Mount is a short boat ride away from Marazion which you can get to by bus or car from Penzance, and it is breathtaking to see from afar or explore its rich history on a day trip!
