Meet The Intern!

As a small but continuously growing and evolving business, we aim to encourage new talents to thrive within our team. We have recently held a 6-week placement with a local University student and current employee and we are delighted to show you how it went. We have shown her how Gemini Woman runs and mentored her as a part of an ongoing University module.

Paige, our intern spent 6 weeks with the online team at Gemini, spending time being supported by each different department to help get involved and understand which part of a fashion business like ours that she is most interested in.

Paige: I started off as a Sales Stylist on the shop floor at Gemini and have had an amazing opportunity as part of my Fashion Branding degree at Birmingham City University to complete a placement with the online girls. My aspiration when I finish my degree is to work within a buying and marketing team in a fashion company so this was a perfect insight into what the different roles would entail.

What did your placement involve?

My placement covered everything that goes on behind the scenes at Gemini, I got a chance to attend the new brochure shoots, edit imagery and video content, and attend trade meetings. I even had an opportunity to go to a buying appointment with Claire (business owner) and Donna (buying and content manager) in London at Masai Clothing.

What did you learn?

I was amazed to see how much detail goes into making every change through the website, all of the analysis and reports that make every detail thought through. I also was very intrigued to see how well such a small team works together, everyone has their own role, but the end products are all this work put together.

What was your highlight?

Something that stands out for me would be the buying trip to London, it was amazing to see how we first see the product and make the selection. The products were for Winter 2023, and seeing how they have captured the trends for the next seasons was so interesting! Definitely a great memory and has majorly boosted my excitement about securing a graduate role as a buying assistant.

What is something you are taking away from the placement?

I have gained skills in Photoshop and Excel which is brilliant for my degree and perfect for being a graduate in the fashion industry. Everything is massively reliant on technology and having these base skills will hopefully help me in getting my first position in the fashion industry once I have graduated.

We are keen to get more aspiring students involved at Gemini Woman so if this interests you please get in touch with careers@gemini-woman.co.uk to enquire further, we would love to hear from you!
