World Book Day with Gemini

Who doesn’t love a good book? That feeling of getting lost in a story, or drifting off into the deepest of sleeps after a reading session before bed... At Gemini, we wanted to celebrate World Book Day with some of our current book recommendations and must-reads! The great thing about world book day today is we have the option to listen to audiobooks, or read on our devices, meaning there really is no excuse for not getting stuck into a good book – fiction or non-fiction!

Our recommendations:

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Becky, E-commerce manager: "I love a good audio book on my commute to work and this novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid had me hooked! A rollercoaster of rock and roll and relationships, vivid and exciting. Excited for the TV series starting in March now."

Verity by Colleen Hoover

Lauren – Marketing: "I can’t say I am Colleen Hoover’s biggest fan given that her books are mainly based upon toxic relationships and bad romances. However, hearing she was releasing a suspenseful thriller I had to read it and I can honestly say it didn’t disappoint! Maybe I’ve been converted into a fan of hers know who knows.

Verity hooked me from the start just because I was constantly trying to find out what is going on and piece together the answers myself – even after reading the book I’m still wondering and left guessing. With this book you should expect to be shocked and appalled, it’s disturbing for sure – but that’s why it is such a good read… your eyes can’t leave the page. I think I read this book in a day. If you read this book, everything you predict will be the ending, is wrong. Full of twists and turns this book will surely end up being a firm favourite of yours if you’re into mystery, a little romance and complete mind games. Hopefully, you have rested your toes for a while because you’ll be on them a lot reading this book."

The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller

Donna Content and Buying Manager:   "This is currently on my bedside table and has me gripped nightly. A fascinating story spanning 24 hours that is beautifully written and immersive."

Think like a Monk - Jay Shetty

Fearne Cotton has a new book club as part of her Happy Place podcast, and the focus around her recommendations is self-help and mindfulness. One recommendation that stands out to Content  Assistant  Amber is ‘Think like a monk’ by Jay Shetty since she listens to his podcast religiously and he speaks about the teachings from within the book on there. "His approach to life is one of gratitude and positivity, and if it is anything like his podcast this is sure to be a great self-help read/listen!"

Zoe Ball, BBC 2 presenter has her own book club on BBC Radio 2 as of the end of January 2023, and she discusses new book recommendations, gets new authors on to discuss their own books and more! If you haven’t quite got the time to read a book, the book club may be a great way to tap into some new literature and the discussions around it, and possibly find some inspiration for an audiobook!

Happy World Book Day, and we hope you may feel inspired to read one of our recommendations or listen to the book club podcasts!
